Simple devices made of bacterial spores, glue, and plastic may allow capturing energy from evaporating water. This video explains the motivation behind our work and the exciting process of scientifically driven innovation. The contents are based on the publication: "Scaling up nanoscale water-driven energy conversion into evaporation-driven engines and generators", Nature Communications, 6:7346 (2015). http://dx.doi.org/10.1038/ncomms8346 For more information, http://www.extremebio.org/
Co-founder of Water Engine Technology (WET), Euan Hogg, explains how ECCI has supported the development of his company. WET are also a member of the Low Carbon Ideas Lab. ECCI's Low Carbon Innovation project identified and then aimed to bridge the gap between university know-how and dynamic Scottish enterprises, matching expertise to new ideas, to new people, to new markets and to new finance. Over the four years ECCI’s team actively engaged with over 1400 Scottish enterprises, providing intensive support to over 200, helping them develop over 200 new low carbon products and services. 11 most incredible alternative energy sources like lamps powered by blood or salt and an air conditioner made from recycled bottles. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 6. The Eco-Cooler This amazing DIY air conditioning system was created by a Bangladeshi citizen named Ashis Paul and it requires no electricity whatsoever. This makes it the first air conditioning system that runs on zero electricity. Made out of a board and recycled soda bottles, this air conditioner is able to cool the internal temperature of huts up to 5 degrees Celsius, which is good because most huts are made with tin roofs that magnify the sun’s heat. The blueprints on how to create one of these are located online for the public so that everyone is able to build one of these. 5. The Blood Lamp What would ...

CASE STUDY: Desalination is a complicated process, the Seven Seas Corp.* approached DaVinci Studio to develop an animation that simplified the explanation of the process. Taking a cue from Seven Seas we started with squiggly style animation to give the technical looking components a non-technical look. Bottom line is to go from engineering-speak to the layman's level. Desalination (also called "desalinization" and "desalting") is the process of removing dissolved salts from water, thus producing fresh water from seawater or brackish water. Desalting technologies can be used for many applications. The most prevalent use is to produce potable water from saline water for domestic or municipal purposes.
